Coordination Chemistry


Coordination compounds play a major role in biological systems and in modern technology. They are used as catalysts as well as for the activation of small molecules. It is the goal of our group to contribute to the understanding and the development of this field. Ranging from complexes of main group elements like silicon, and germanium to transition metals, coordination chemistry in our group is multifaceted and provides an excellent field to train chemical handcraft and lab skills as well as creativity.

Our group is now active in several interrelated fields of main group and transition metal coordination chemistry. The syntheses of talented ligand systems like b-diketiminato ligands, stable silylenes and their heavier analogues opened new doorways to catalysis and to unravel mechanisms. Our future challenges will be next to the demanding chemistry of our stable silylenes and germylenes the extention of our transition metal complexes to more metal atoms as well as the development of catalytic applications.
